Happy Friday! We don’t know about you guys but we are definitely looking forward to the weekend. Before we get to all of that though we are excited to share our last T.J. Maxx Fall Style Challenge. Being San Francisco residents this week’s challenge was especially near and dear to us. In case you haven’t guessed it yet from the title, this week’s theme is Layering!
Britt+Whit’s Tips to Layering:
-Pay attention to portions to avoid looking overly bulky or dowdy
-Layer on scarves or necklaces to dress up an outfit
-Add a pop of color with a top layer like a sweater or cardigan
-Don’t be afraid to mix prints and textures
-Experiment with vests, capes, and even layering jackets on top of other jackets
Layering is an essential skill when living in a climate as fickle San Francisco’s. The weather changes so often during the day that I rarely leave home without at least a scarf tucked away in my bag, even during warmer months.
This lightweight and slightly over-sized anorak from T.J. Maxx is the perfect layering piece. I had been searching for one forever and T. J. Maxx had some great options for a fraction of the cost I had seen them for at other department stores. The jacket is just big enough to be able to add multiple layers underneath. Plus I love the red zipper detailing against the navy blue color of the coat.
For my under-layers I added a striped T.J. Maxx sweater over a slim fit gingham shirt. When adding multiple layers it helps to start with slim fitting layers first to keep the final look from being too bulky. To balance out the larger coat and top layers, I paired them with some skinny jeans. I chose some bright red, wedge sneakers and a neutral bag to finish the look.
Layering is definitely an art I have perfected from living in downtown San Francisco. The weather is extremely moody and can go through four seasons within a day. So layers are definitely key, especially when you have to worry about Karl the Fog! I found this classic houndstooth blazer at T.J. Maxx. I love that they have the latest trends. I saw houndstooth down multiple Spring 14 runways and have been on the hunt ever since!
I got the blazer a size larger than normal to make it comfortable enough to layer a sweater or multiple layers. I started off my layers with this cute skater dress I found at T.J. Maxx and added a black sheer blouse with a colorful cardigan on top. I finished off the look with my new houndstooth blazer and a statement necklace!
