What Is Ipsy Glam Bag X?

Updated on

Ipsy is one of the most popular beauty subscription services. Until December 2020, they offered Glam Bag Ultimate on a monthly basis, but they recently replaced that service with the quarterly Glam Bag X. This new service is exciting because each bag comes with 7 or 8 luxury products and can be worth up to $350. Glam Bag X is curated by different celebrities each quarter.

Glam Bag X is a new service from Ipsy. It’s available every four months and replaces your usual subscription, whether it’s Glam Bag or Glam Bag Plus. This new subscription costs $55, and includes up to $350 of luxury products curated by a different celebrity guest each season. You’ll get 7-8 items with each bag, and some of those might even be exclusive to subscribers. The first Glam Bag X will be available in February.

What is IPSY Glam Bag X?

Ipsy Glam Bag X is a quarterly subscription that’s new from Ipsy. You can get your first bag in February 2021, but you’ll need to have an active subscription to order this one. Each bag is curated by a celebrity guest, and they’ll usually feature favorite products from their own brand. This new subscription is geared toward luxury and high-end offerings.

Pros:

  • Full-size items
  • Luxury items worth up to $350
  • Curated by different celebrities
  • Exclusive items

Everything included in your Glam Bag X will be full-sized products, and each bag comes with 7-8 items. You get a substantial amount of product in each bag, and you can always gift any items that you’re not interested in.

There’s no minimum worth each month, but there’s a potential value of up to $350. That’s an incredible deal for $55, and it means we’re likely to get higher-end products in Glam Bag X.

One of the draws of Glam Bag X is that these bags are curated by celebrities in the makeup and beauty world. The first curator is Patrick Ta, who has his own makeup line and is known as a makeup artist to people like Ariana Grande, Gigi Hadid, and Rihanna.

Glam Bag X bags will include exclusive beauty items that are only available to subscribers. This subscription could give you access to unique, exciting items.

Cons:

  • Need to have existing subscription to get this bag
  • Only 4 times a year
  • Fewer item options

There’s no way to sign up for just a Glam Bag X subscription. To get Glam Bag X, you need to sign up for a Glam Bag or Glam Bag Plus subscription. You can pause your subscription to avoid paying for it in the months between Glam Bag X shipments, but it’s an inconvenience.

Unlike the previous top Ipsy tier, this box is only available on a quarterly basis. Instead of getting 8 full-size products and 4 samples, you’ll be getting 7-8 full-size items. Hopefully, this is a sign of higher quality items!

There’s one downside to celebrity curations, and it’s that there are fewer item options available with each bag. Other glam bags choose your product selections out of dozens of options, but it seems like there are only a handful available through Glam Bag X. That means bags will be more hit or miss, depending on how closely they match your interests.

How does IPSY Glam Bag X work?

Ipsy Glam Bag X is a quarterly subscription, and there are 4 a year. The bags will come out in February, May, August and November, and they’ll replace your usual Ipsy bag. That’s the main catch to this bag: you need to already be an Ipsy subscriber to get access to this one. As long as you don’t fully cancel your subscription, you can reactivate it and get the new Glam Bag X.

Glam Bag X will add a $43 charge to the usual Glam Bag billing fee, or $30 to the usual Glam Bag Plus fee.

What’s the difference between IPSY Glam Bag X and Glam Bag Ultimate?

Ipsy is eliminating the Glam Bag Ultimate and replacing it with Glam Bag X, so you might be wondering how they’re different. The goal seems to be to provide a more luxury, customized experience with Glam Bag X than people were getting from Glam Bag Ultimate. Ipsy has made a lot of changes to the new subscription, and I’ll highlight them here:

  • There’s a small price increase
  • Fewer products per bag
  • Higher value
  • Fewer product options
  • Curated by celebrities
  • Glam Bag X exclusives

Glam Bag Ultimate was $50, while Glam Bag X is $55.

Glam Bag X has 7-8 items per bag, while Ultimate had 8 full-size items and 4 samples.

Each Glam Bag Ultimate had a value of at least $250, while Glam Bag X is worth up to $350, without promising a minimum value.

So far, it seems like there will be fewer product options that there are with other Glam Bags. You get 3 choice items with Glam Bag X, but it looks like there isn’t as much variety to choose from.

Each Glam Bag X will be curated by different celebrities, with Patrick Ta as the first collaborator. Ipsy hasn’t done this before for a subscription.

The Glam Bag X info page says there will be exclusive product drops through this subscription, but we don’t know what kind of products those will be just yet. Glam Bag Ultimate never had this option!

How much does IPSY Glam Bag X cost?

The total cost for your Glam Bag X is $55.

Ipsy will charge you for your usual subscription, whether it’s the $12 for Glam Bag or the $25 for Glam Bag Plus. They’ll also charge an extra fee for Glam Bag X to bring your total payment up to $55.

How do you sign up for IPSY Glam Bag X?

To get Ipsy Glam Bag X, you already need to be an active Ipsy member. You can sign up for either Glam Bag or Glam Bag Plus as your base subscription.

If you don’t want to keep up your subscription every month and are just interested in Glam Bag X, you can put your subscription on pause for the months in between, and activate it again in time for Glam Bag Plus.

For example, if you want the February 2021 bag, make sure you activate your subscription in January after the billing period for January bags is over. That way, you’ll only be active in February, when you can get your Glam Bag X.

What brands does IPSY Glam Bag X send?

Glam Bag X is a little different from previous Ipsy subscriptions. This bag will come with high-end products, and each one is curated by a different celebrity guest. The first Glam Bag X is curated by Patrick Ta, a makeup artist famous for working with celebrities. He’s going to include some products from his own line, along with items from other respected brands. The other brands are Babe Lash, Huda Beauty, and Pat McGrath.

Ipsy bags usually include more makeup products than skincare or haircare, and Glam Bag X seems like no exception. All the spoilers so far are makeup items, except for a dry shampoo.

What’s coming in the first Ipsy Glam Bag X?

Ipsy has released plenty of spoilers for the upcoming February bag, so we have a good idea of what’s coming in these bags. It looks like there’s less variation available than there usually is with Ipsy bags, but the items included are all from quality brands and valued at $30 or more.

The first bag is curated by makeup artist Patrick Ta, and subscribers will have a choice between his Monochrome Moment Velvet Blush and his Brow Shaping Wax & Major Brow Dual-Ended Brow Brush.

The other choice options that we know of are BABE LASH Essential Serum and IGK FIRST CLASS Charcoal Detox Dry Shampoo. The Essential serum is supposed to promote lash growth. People with sensitive skin might want to test it before doing a full application, since the formula can cause irritation. The Detox Dry Shampoo works on all hair textures, from fine to coily, and refreshes the hair.

All bags will include a Huda Beauty Rose Gold Remastered Eyeshadow Palette with 18 different shades of neutrals, reds, and pinks. A Pat McGrath FetishEyes Lengthening Mascara is another guaranteed product, and it’s designed to give you thick, black lashes.

Final Thoughts

Glam Bag X is replacing the previous Glam Bag Ultimate subscription. The X subscription will focus more on luxury items, and hopefully having fewer bags each year will give Ipsy the time to curate really stunning bags with the help of their celebrity guests.

So far, it looks like a great bag for makeup fans who like higher-end products. If you’re more interested in skincare, the upcoming February bag may not be for you. I’m curious about the products they’ll feature in future Glam Bag Xs, though. With different celebrity curators, we might get a slightly different focus from bag to bag.

Glam Bag X hasn’t been released yet, but I’m excited to see the final product selection and try everything out!

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you cancel IPSY Glam Bag X?

With the other Ipsy subscriptions, you can cancel at any time online. Ipsy’s website says you’ll need to contact Ipsy Care to cancel your Glam Bag X subscription, though. Try to cancel a few days before the billing date to allow time for customer service to get back to you.

Can I see what’s in my IPSY Glam Bag X order before it arrives?

You can see everything that’s coming in your bag before it arrives!

Glam Bag X lets you choose 3 of your products, similar to Glam Bag Plus. On the 2nd of every month starting at 9am EST, you’ll see the 4 products chosen for you by the celebrity curator. At this point, you can choose 3 more items from a personalized selection.

This selection is available until 6pm EST on the 3rd of the month. If you’ve tried any other Ipsy bags, you know that choice items sell out quickly, so act fast to get your favorite products.

Who are IPSY Glam Bag X’s competitors?

The structure of the Glam Bag X subscription is very similar to BoxyCharm’s Luxe subscription. Both of these bags replace your usual subscription with the upgrade on a quarterly schedule. They both charge for the upgrade on top of your usual subscription fee.

Glam Bag X is also in competition with NewBeauty TestTube, a quarterly beauty box with excellent value. TestTube is mostly focused on skincare, with few makeup items. This option is cheaper at only $29.99, but it’s the best choice if you want to try quality skincare items from recognizable brands like dr. brandt or Avene.
