My Honest Review of the Walmart Beauty Box

Updated on

Did you know that Walmart has a Beauty Box subscription? I was totally in the dark on this until recently, so I had to try it! The Walmart Beauty Box is a seasonal box that shows up on your doorstep with 6 products/samples from beauty brands that are top-rated in their store. You’ll receive a variety of items from hair products, to skincare products, to supplements… I even got a car freshener in my Fall 2022 box! This was honestly such a fun surprise to open, so let’s dive into it more and cover what I got.

For $6.98 per box (plus tax), you can get the Walmart Beauty Box shipped to your doorstep seasonally. I signed up recently and received the Fall 2022 box. Based on my beauty profile these are some of the items I received: an electrolyte powder pack, Hempz lotion, an oversized satin scrunchie, car freshener, mascara, shampoo and conditioner sampler, and a CoverGirl water cream sample. Honestly? I feel like $6.98 is a steal of a price for what I got, and it was just fun to try new products that I’ve never heard of or thought to purchase before. The electrolyte powder I was especially excited to try out because I’ve been looking into this more recently. It didn’t taste too bad honestly!

How to Get Started

To get your subscription started, you’ll first head to the Walmart Beauty Box website and hit the “Let’s Get Started” button. You’ll then purchase the beauty box for the quarter that you’re starting on (for me it was the Fall 2022 box), and they’ll ask you to take a brief beauty profile quiz. Your beauty profile is what will determine the assortment of samples and products that come in your box each season. Your box will then arrive within two weeks. It took about a week and a half to receive mine.

*** Side note: I have had a heck-of-a time trying to log into my Beauty Box account so see my subscription status, if/when I’ll be automatically charged for my next seasonal box, and explore how the cancellation process works. I’ll have to call Walmart customer service to get this information so that I can pass it along. The Walmart Beauty Box website extension honestly seems very glitchy and poorly set up.

What We Like About Walmart Beauty Box

I really liked the variety of samples and products that I received. With it being a “beauty box,” I was a little surprised to see the car fragrance clip in my box, but it was a fun surprise because who doesn’t love a nice-smelling car? The price point of this seasonal box is more than fair, and I really liked how quickly it came. Overall, I’d recommend trying this Beauty Box out if you like samples and discovering new products.

What We Don’t Like About Walmart Beauty Box

I don’t like their website and customer service at all. When trying to create an account and log in to my subscription I kept receiving errors and glitches. When I would click the links in their confirmation of purchase email to log into my account, it would bring me straight to a 404 page not found. It was really annoying how poorly this is set up and how I have to call customer service to get it straightened out. At this point I have no idea when/if a recurring quarterly payment for this subscription is coming out, and how to cancel if I wanted to. Like, come on Walmart!

Liquid I.V. Hydration Energy Multiplier, Yuzu Pineapple Flavor

Liquid I.V. Hydration Energy Multiplier, Yuzu Pineapple Flavor

Liquid I.V. is a household name in the electrolyte department. This Energy Multiplier is energy and hydration in one. To get a kick of energy, this product has a natural source of caffeine from coffeeberry extract, CognatIQ coffee fruit extract and L-Theanine which helps support brain function. I was really excited to try this! A lot of electrolyte powders don’t taste very good, but I really liked the flavor of the Yuzu Pineapple. Retail for a box of six of these packets is $9.98.

Hempz Triple Moisture Herbal Whipped Body Creme Sample

Hempz Triple Moisture Herbal Whipped Body Creme Sample

Ok, let’s start with the smell on this one. It’s a bit strong for me and honestly smells like something super fruity that my grandma would wear. But that’s just me. The smell may be your cup of tea. It does go on very lightly and absorbs into the skin quickly which is nice. I will definitely be keeping this lotion within reach this winter. Retail for a full-sized bottle of this Hempz lotion is $19.48.

Hairitage by Mindy McKnight Oversized Satin Scrunchie

Hairitage by Mindy McKnight Oversized Satin Scrunchie

Did you know that wearing your hair up in a loose oversized scrunchie at night is more protective of your strands? I use oversized scrunchies like these at night, so I was excited to see this in my box! I’m also a fan of Hairitage by Mindy McKnight products, so this was a great addition. It is a satin fabric in a beautiful red bronze color. LOVE! This scrunchie retails for $4.49.

Covergirl Weightless Water Cream Sample

Covergirl Weightless Water Cream Sample

This weightless water cream is divine. Made with cactus water and hyaluronic acid, your skin will thank you for putting this on it. The scent is soft and the consistency is smooth. It absorbs very quickly into the skin, and claims to be for all skin types. I really like it! Just wish I had more of a sample to try as this was tiny! Covergirl also has two other Clean Fresh Skincare lotions to try if you have oily or dry skin. Retail for the full sized product is $14.98.

Not Your Mother’s Smooth Moves Shampoo & Conditioner Sample

Not Your Mother’s Smooth Moves Shampoo & Conditioner Sample

I’ve always been a big fan of Not Your Mother’s haircare products. I’m very particular about the shampoo I use in my hair, and currently have one I love, but I will give this a go next time its hair-washing day! It smells great and I’m excited to try it. Retail for the full-sized conditioner is $7.74 and for the shampoo, it’s the same. They both have great reviews!

Yankee Candle Sidekick Vent Clip Fragrance Kit with Refill

Yankee Candle Sidekick Vent Clip Fragrance Kit with Refill

Of all the random things I could get in this box… I was actually really excited about this Yankee Candle Sidekick. I love a good clean smelling car. I got the whole shebang on this one: product and refill. The scent I was sent is Pink Sands and honestly smelled like a pink Starburst. Yum! The clip is actually cute looking, and reusable with different refill scents. I don’t understand the tab on the side at all, supposedly it controls the fragrance intensity, but I don’t see how. Retail for this is $8.94.

Milani AntiGravity Mascara Sample

Milani AntiGravity Mascara Sample

This new mascara from Milani claims to have up to 24 hours of wear, is “weightless”, smudge-proof, clump-proof, and has castor seed oil in the formula. I was excited to try it. Let me start by saying, the brush… the brush! I love it. It’s an hourglass shape with stiff bristles that really do make this mascara clump-proof. If you’re someone who combs out or separates their lashes after applying mascara, you may want to check this one out. Retail for this mascara is $10.97.

Final Thoughts

If you’re interested in getting some fun new samples to try from top-rated brands sold at Walmart, try this box! The price point is great, the variety of products they sent was good, and it was just fun to try new things. My favorite product that I received in the Fall 2022 seasonal box was the Liquid I.V. (been wanting to try this for a while), and I also loved the Anti Gravity mascara from Milani. I do wish that Walmart had a better online account center where you could check the status of your subscription, and where to easily cancel, but I’m sure they’ll get there with enough feedback. Overall, very impressed with the Walmart Beauty Box subscription.
